Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2020, Volume 14, Issue 2,   Pages 411-434 doi: 10.1007/s11709-019-0602-y

Abstract: It is remarkable, the recent advances concerning the development of numerical modeling frameworks to simulate the infill panels’ seismic behavior. However, there is a lack of experimental data of their mechanical properties, which are of full importance to calibrate the numerical models. The primary objective of this paper is to present an extensive experimental campaign of mechanical characterization tests of infill masonry walls made with three different types of masonry units: lightweight vertical hollow concrete blocks and hollow clay bricks. Four different types of experimental tests were carried out, namely: compression strength tests, diagonal tensile strength tests, and flexural strength tests parallel and perpendicular to the horizontal bed joints. A total amount of 80 tests were carried out and are reported in the present paper. The second objective of this study was to compare the mechanical properties of as-built and existing infill walls. The results presented and discussed herein, will be in terms of strain-stress curves and damages observed within the tests. It was observed a fragile behavior in the panels made with hollow clay horizontal bricks, without propagation of cracks. The plaster increased the flexural strength by 57%.

Decentralized multi-agent reinforcement learning with networked agents: recent advances Review Article

Kaiqing Zhang, Zhuoran Yang, Tamer Başar,kzhang66@illinois.edu,zy6@princeton.edu,basar1@illinois.edu

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 6,   Pages 802-814 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1900661

Abstract: Multi-agent (MARL) has long been a significant research topic in both machine learning and control systems. Recent development of (single-agent) deep has created a resurgence of interest in developing new MARL algorithms, especially those founded on theoretical analysis. In this paper, we review recent advances on a sub-area of this topic: decentralized MARL with networked agents. In this scenario, multiple agents perform sequential decision-making in a common environment, and without the coordination of any central controller, while being allowed to exchange information with their neighbors over a communication network. Such a setting finds broad applications in the control and operation of robots, unmanned vehicles, mobile sensor networks, and the smart grid. This review covers several of our research endeavors in this direction, as well as progress made by other researchers along the line. We hope that this review promotes additional research efforts in this exciting yet challenging area.

Nonlinear Characteristics of Cutting Forces in High-speed Face-milling of Difficult-to-cut Materials by AR

Long Zhenhai,Wang Xibin,Wang Haochen

Strategic Study of CAE 2004, Volume 6, Issue 10,   Pages 28-31

Abstract:

Factorials experiment and velocity single-factor experiment are applied in the dry high-speed milling experiments of Martensitic stainless steel 2Crl3, which is used in aerospace industry. Based on the analysis of cutting regimes, influences on milling force, the spectrum analysis and wavelet analysis are applied on the random cutting force signals. This study shows that in high speed milling of Martensitic stainless process, the interaction of depth of cut and feed per tooth has significant effect on the cutting force; the interaction of feed per tooth and depth of cut introduces a lower frequency periodic signal; this low frequency signal coupled with high frequency signal could remarkably increase the amplitude of cutting force signals.
